about this Blog

After I (more or less) finished my 1966 Volkswagen Fastback the "Volksback", it was time for another challenge, here it is!

a nice gift

Today I visited my friend Jens the mighty master blaster to have some parts media blasted, besides a really nice gift he had for me, -> http://www.yeti69.blogspot.de/ he was so kind to exchange 2 slightly rotted tank fixation clamps for 4 refurbed ones:
they will look good on the Streaker!

Mercedes parts in a VW???

I am in the process of laying out the valve train for the Streaker. As I am not too sure about the quality of the swivel foot adjusters on the market - and  I want to make sure I have quality parts on the engine, I chose brandnew OEM Mercedes parts!
They are double the price of the available US-parts, but I can be sure they won't fail!
Special thanks to Christian N. for support - and even delivery!

Together with a set of real nice, modified OEM VW (sleeved and equipped with screw-on end caps) this area of the engine should be good to go! Of course, new nuts are used here!

My friend Ulli was so kind and gave me a distributor drive shaft - which I didn't had.

Interior clean up

The Aubergine body had a nice headliner, but dirty - as well as the sun visors, so I gave them a good clean.
A before picture of a really bad area:

the same area after a good clean with some scouring agent "Viss" and a kitchen sponge:
maybe not perfect but a ton better than before!
Here are the sun visors - before:

In detail:

the white side is not that much different between before /after:

engine work continues...

Today I checked and aligned the 90,5 mm AA pistons for equal weight.
After some fine tuning they are now all exactly 415 grams (there was only 1 gram between the 2 extremes anyway):

in order to reduce the weight of all moving parts, I will use lighter wrist pins:
left: light version - right: original wrist pin

here is the weight difference:

= another 13,6 grams per piston saved!
