body to pan installation

... it is comming together!
Today I bolted the body onto the pan, after I inserted the bakelite heater channel pipe - of course with a new seal!
first of all I used body sealer and rust protection on the edge I fixed a while ago:

the heater channel pipe - with new seal:

afterwards I coated the area with some underseal and attached the pipe:

next topic: body to pan hardware installation:

right side finished (note the perfect, rust free, original heater channels!)

screws and hardware to fix the body onto the front axle beam (steering column connected as well):

lower front screws attached:

left side, finished as well:

Oldtimermarkt Hamm / classic car swap meet Hamm

Today I visited the classic cars swap meet in Hamm. It was really packed and all parking lots were stuffed before 10:00 am! As usual, also a lot of bike and bicylce dealers were present. The weather was really nice and I got the chance to pick a few parts:
a pair of kick panels (already cleaned in the mean time), an oil presure gauge, a battery clamp, an aux fuse holder with 4 fuses and nice VW sign for my garage wall. I also picked a 3/8" Hazet 11mm socket (not shown) for the con rod screws for my new motor(s)...

a nice gift

Today I visited my friend Jens the mighty master blaster to have some parts media blasted, besides a really nice gift he had for me, -> http://www.yeti69.blogspot.de/ he was so kind to exchange 2 slightly rotted tank fixation clamps for 4 refurbed ones:
they will look good on the Streaker!

Mercedes parts in a VW???

I am in the process of laying out the valve train for the Streaker. As I am not too sure about the quality of the swivel foot adjusters on the market - and  I want to make sure I have quality parts on the engine, I chose brandnew OEM Mercedes parts!
They are double the price of the available US-parts, but I can be sure they won't fail!
Special thanks to Christian N. for support - and even delivery!

Together with a set of real nice, modified OEM VW (sleeved and equipped with screw-on end caps) this area of the engine should be good to go! Of course, new nuts are used here!

My friend Ulli was so kind and gave me a distributor drive shaft - which I didn't had.

Interior clean up

The Aubergine body had a nice headliner, but dirty - as well as the sun visors, so I gave them a good clean.
A before picture of a really bad area:

the same area after a good clean with some scouring agent "Viss" and a kitchen sponge:
maybe not perfect but a ton better than before!
Here are the sun visors - before:

In detail:

a direct before/after comparison:

driver's visor in detail:

the white side is not that much different between before /after:

engine work continues...

Today I checked and aligned the 90,5 mm AA pistons for equal weight.
After some fine tuning they are now all exactly 415 grams (there was only 1 gram between the 2 extremes anyway):

in order to reduce the weight of all moving parts, I will use lighter wrist pins:
left: light version - right: original wrist pin

here is the weight difference:

= another 13,6 grams per piston saved!
