Another productive (Sun)day in the garage!

As it was pouring outside the whole day, I did a lot work on the Streaker today.
First of all: Cut a hole in the carpet and install the cleaned and greased shifter:

Detail: The later shifter has a poly bushing to prevent rattling:

 Then it was time to install the new carburator:

I took some time to rework the "elbows" for better gas flow.

Finally, I did some wiring for the tail lights:
right side: 4 spade connector with separate earth connector (the glass fibre wings have no ground connection). A rubber grommet guides the cables through the sidewall:

Deep throat 39

I am not so familiar in the porn genre, but I am pretty sure there was a movie called deep throat (and I'm afraid to google it - only god knows the results of this search). However, in this case it is the modified intake manifold "throat" for the 39 mm Solex carburator I got today.

Today in Herford I found some new stuff for the Streaker and the Volksback as well!
The all shiny and brandnew like Solex top left!

For the Streaker I found a pair of intake "elbows", a dipstick, a chrome headlight bezel, the new carburator, a rubber boot for the shifter, the modified manifold and a pair of dashboard inserts for 52mm and 80 mm gauges. For the Volksback I bought a set of chrome plated wheel bolts for the next set of wheels and a seal for the IRS tranny.

 ... and for the garage I found a new sign - in fact, I 've seen it in Rosmalen as well, but it was 5€ cheaper today :-)

Currently I am busy with the suspension upgrade of the Volksback, but I want to get ready with the Streaker also, so I grabbed the airbox with 2-speed electric fan which I bought in Budel. It was filthy and covered in different shades of overspray, but fully functional!
After disassembly, I started with this:

The cover had traces of red, green and blue overspray - especially in the mesh...
After a  good clean it was much better:

So I started the assembly again

Carefully cleaned the fan (this thing is vulnerable!) and gave the motor a good clean + a bath in WD40, then assembled onto the inner housing:

 ... with new fixation clips. Not show quality, but good enough for me!

As I didn't show some actual pics of the Streaker for some time, here are some mock-up shots:

Yesterday the Volksstreaker got its new tyres. Yokohama Geolandar in the rear - a good compromise between on + off road:

  They look beefy enough on the 8" rims

bad quality doesn't pay ...

After more than 1 week I finally got my money back from the dealer which sold a cheap brasilian made part under the label of VEWIB - which was a scam! In the mean time I found a used orignal VW part for a fracture of the price of the aftermarket part!

Confirmed: I still believe in VEWIB quality!

In the meantime I got a personal reply from the Managing Director of VEWIB - which I contacted as well. He confirms that this is definately NOT a VEWIB part.
He sent a real long and interesting mail, explaining some of his business and the market for low cost reproduction Beetle parts in Brazil. This is what I call customer relationship!

Sailing under false colors!
My personal opinion is that the dealer claimed that this was a VEWIB part intentionally. A behavior I absolutely detest!

I already sent the part back to the dealer and hope he returns the money soon ...
